Judge Blair in circuit court this morning granted a divorce to  Mrs. Clara F. Steele  from her husband,  James D. Steele.  The hearing in the case was held December 31, 1912, and at that time Judge Blair stated he was satisfied the evidence was sufficient to warrant him in granting the divorce, but he withheld his decision and explained that he would like to see the defendant in court. Steele was chared with wife beating and it is suspected the Judge Blair wanted to interest him specially in the case.  However, it was demonstrated that it was impossible to find the man in a reasonable time, as he appears to have left the city, and the judge decided to announce his decision today.
The divorce is the second for Mrs. Steele, as she secured a decree from her first husband more than twenty-five years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Steele were married July 8, 1894, and the separation occurred October 7, 1912.  Shortly before the complaint was filed Steele beat his wife and kicked her out of their home north of the city.  Subsequently he paid a fine and costs on a charge of assault and battery on his wife.  In addition to charging this Mrs. Steele alleged that her husband had once abandoned her and their daughter,  Maud,  and had left them for a long time dependent on their relatives.  Mrs. Steele was represented by Attorneys Hord & Adams.
The case of the state of Indiana on relation of  Pearlie Schnitker  against  Silas Pitman,  a paternity prodeedings, set for trial in the circuit court today, was dismissed, but no public announcement was made of the terms on which the dismissal was based.  The case had been in court for more than a year, having reached there from the court of a local justice of the peace.  The relatirx is a daughter of  Herman Schnitker,  now living near Batesville, but formerly of near this city, and she was once employed at the Pitman home.  The regular petit jury and a special venire of twelve men had been summoned from which to empanel the jury for the case, but they were not needed and were allowed by Judge Blair to return home early in the day.
Suit for partition and sale of real estate has been filed in the circuit court for  Talma Fox and  Pearl Fox,  his wife;  Elbert V. Fox and  May Fox,  his wife, and  Lee Fox and  Grave Fox,  his wife, against  Sarah E. Fox  and  Charles Fox  and wife.
Cameron Limpus  qualified in circuit court today as administrator of the estate of his brother, the late  William E. Limpus,  the bond being four thousand dollars.
In the case of the state of Indiana ex rel.  Albert R. Keaton,  as commissioner, vs.  William A. McDonald,  as treasurer of Shelby county, Indiana, a case mandating the defendant to collect the initial costs from the taxpayers concerned in the  Elbert V. Morrison  proposed drain, and which has been appealed to the supreme court, an appeal bond in the sum of $50 with  Allie C. Miller,  Zeno Kepley,  A. G. Mellis,  George Thomas  and  J. A. Paterson,  Adam Mellis,  and  William Bass  sureties, has been filed and approved.
