            Indenture of Apprenticeship between Leonidas Gordon William McElwee and James J. Conner as Trustees of Adison Township in the County of Shelby and state of Indiana and David L. Montgomery of the aforesaid Township, County and state; Witnesseth that the said Trustees of Adison Township hath and doth by these presence hereby bind William Ellis Jackson age Eight years on the 18 day of Jany in the 1857, as an apprentice with the said David L. Montgomery untill the 18th day of Jany in the year 1870 from the date hereof, to learn the trade and occupation of a Farmer And the said Gordon, McElwee and Conner as Trustees of said Township aforesaid Covenants, that the said William Ellis Jackson shall faithfully serve the said David L. Montgomery, as such apprentice during said term; And the said David L. Montgomery covenants with said Trustees and their successors that he will teach the said William Ellis Jackson the said trade and occupation of farming and provide him during said Apprenticeship with all necessaries proper to his age and condition and to cause him to be taught to read and write, and the rules of Airthmetic to the double rule of three and Interest, inclusive if practicable; and at the Expiration of said term to furnish to him, the said William Ellis Jackson a full suit of clothes made out of good cloth, and a horse saddle and bridle worth one hundred and Twenty five dollars and fifty Dollars in money
            In testimony whereof the Parties have hereunto set their hands & seals, this 13th day of April in the year 1857.
