This Indenture made this Sixteenth day of December in the year of our Lord one
thousand eight hundred and forty Seven, Between  Samuel Sherwood 
and Maria Sherwood of the the County of Franklin and  Alamander
Stone  of the County of Shelby all in the State of Indiana of the first
part, and  Joseph L Silcox  of the County of Shelby and State
aforesaid of the Second part   Witnesseth That the said  Samuel
Sherwood  and  Maria Sherwood  in the right of the
said  Maria Sherwood and the said  Alamander Stone  in his
own right for and in consideration of the sum of seventy two dollars to the said
party of the first part in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged
by the said party of the first part have hereby granted, bargained, and sold and
by these presents do convey and confirm unto the said part of the second part
his heirs and assigns forever -- The following described real estate situate in
the County of Shelby aforesaid  To wit.  The undivided one ninth part
of the  West half of the South East quarter and the North half of the East
half of the South West quarter, of Section Twenty eight  Township Fourteen
North  of Range Seven East, in the District of lands subject to sale at
Indianapolis Indiana said real estate being subject to a life estate owned by
one  Martha Ferris  which said life estate is hereby reserved
from the bargain and sale aforesaid  To have and to hold the above
described real estate unto the said party of the second part, his heirs and
assigns forever and the said party of the first part, for themselves and their
heirs do hereby covenant with the said party of the Second part, his heirs and
assigns, that the title to the premises aforesaid is clear, free and
unencumbered; that they have good right, full power and lawful authority to sell
and convey the same in the manner aforesaid and that they will forever Warrant
and Defend the same against the claims of all persons whatsoever.  In
Testimony whereof the said  Samuel Sherwood,  and  Maria
Sherwood  and  Almander Stone  have hereunto set their hands and
affixed their seals the day and year first above written.

            Before me the
undersigned A Notary Public in and for the County of Franklin aforesaid
personally appeared Samuel Sherwood  Maria Sherwood and  Alamander
Stone  the grantors in the foregoing Instrument and acknowledged the same
to the their Voluntary act and deed for the purposes therein mentioned And at
the same time Maria Sherwood the wife of the said Samuel Sherwood on a private
examination, seperate and apart from and without the hearing of her said husband
the contents of this deed of conveyance being first by me made known to her
acknowledged that she signed and sealed the same Voluntarily of her own free
will and accord without the coercion or compulsion of her said husband.  In testimony
whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my official seal this 16th day
of December A D 1847.
