BLUE  RIDGE  MAN  TAKES  OWN  LIFE
Alfred Witz Hangs Self as Result of Despondency;
Body Discovered by Wife
HAD  BEEN  IDLE  FOR  YEAR
Financial Worries Also Said to Have Had Part in Act;
Funeral to be Held Sunday
----------
          Despondency over lack of employment and other financial worries, is assumed by the family to have been responsible for the suicide yesterday afternoon at about 4:40 o’clock of  John Alfred Witz, resident of Blue Ridge.  His body was discovered by his wife at about five o’clock, suspended from a rafter in a smoke house back of the dwelling.  He had apparently been dead for some time.  A window cord was used in the suicide and Mr. Witz had evidently stepped from a chair close by.  He had conversed with his wife much in his usual manner a few minutes preceeding his act.
          Friends in Blue Ridge stated today that Mr. Witz had been in a despondency state of mind for some time, often hinting of suicide as published in the newspapers, remarking that the victims “were better off.”  He had not been employed for about a year.
