Noble C. Winton Jr.

Noble C. Winton Jr., 79, Lafayette, former Shelbyville resident, died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2001, Lafayette.
Born Aug. 5, 1922, in Shelby County, son of  Noble C. and Kathryn (O’Dell) Winton Sr.  Married  Marie Nebbles  on May 27, 1944.  She died May 25, 1982.
Survivors include two sisters, Mary Smith  of Plainfield and  Jeannette Elrod  of Terre Haute; and one brother, Jim Winton  of Indianapolis.
Employed at Link Belt in Indianapolis for 18 years, retiring in 1962.  Security guard with Indiana University-Purdue University, Indianapolis.
Morristown Christian Church and Moose Lodge of Shelbyville.
U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Floral Park West Cemetery in Indianapolis, Rev. Henry Watkins officiating.  Military rites.

Carl R. Winton, age 82, born December 2, 1895, Shelby county; died Saturday April 22, 1978 at Shelbyville.  Residence was R.R.# 3, Shelbyville.
Son of  Stephen and Amanda Jane (Garlich) Winton; married September 1, 1937 to  Bertha A. McDaniel, who survives.
Other survivors; son, Russell Gene Winton, R.3, Shelbyville; daughter, Mrs. Robert J. (Mildred) Smith, Shelbyville; step-daughter, Mrs. Virgil (Dorothy L.) Adkins, R.1, Flat Rock; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Six brothers preceded in death.
WW I Army veteran.  Member of Jehovah's Witnesses.

NOBLE  WINTON
DIES  AT  79
----------
          Noble Winton Sr.,  79, Indianapolis, a former Shelby County resident, died of a heart attack Thursday at his home.  Born July 15, 1894, the son of  Benjamin and  Kathryn (Copple) Winton,  he was married to  Kathryn Odell  on Dec. 31, 1920, and she survives.
          Also surviving are two daughters,  Mrs. Harold (Mary) Smith,  Plainfield, and  Mrs. Wilburn (Jeanette) Elrod,  Terre Haute; two sons,  James Winton  and  Noble Winton Jr.,  both of Indianapolis; one sister,  Mrs. Howard Mahley,  Fairland, and eight grandchildren.
          Services will be at the Stirling Funeral Home, 1420 Prospect St., Indianapolis, at 10:30 a.m. Monday.  Friends may call at the funeral home after 6:00 p.m. today.  Burial will be in Washington Park East Cemetery.

Former Shelbyville Woman
Dies At Detroit

          Funeral services for  Mrs. Amanda Winton, 85, widow of  Stephen Winton  and former local resident, who died Saturday in Detroit, Michigan, will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. today at the C. F. Fix & Son mortuary.
          The Rev. Josephine Huffer, pastor of the Trinity Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be on the family lot in Forest Hill cemetery.  Friends may call at the mortuary.
          Mrs. Winton had lived in Detroit for the past seven years.  She was born in 1858 in Miamisburg, Ohio.  Her marriage to Stephen Winton took place a number of years ago.  Mr. Winton died in January 1934.  Mrs. Winton was a member of the Methodist church.
          Surviving are four sons, Carl, Brandywine township, Arch  and  Art, Detroit, and  Omer Winton, Pontiac, Michigan, and eight grandchildren.

          William I. Winton, seventy-two years old, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Eva Higgins,  611 West South street, at four o'clock Friday afternoon, following an illness of eleven days.  Death was due to influenza and uremic poisoning.
          The deceased was born on January 1, 1865, the son of  Isaac  and  Sarah Kenton Winton.  He was a blacksmith, and had lived in this community all his life.  He was a member of the Baptist church.
          Surviving include two daughters  Mrs. Higgins;  Mrs. Lillian Bunch, Indianapolis; two sons,  Will H. Winton,  Greensburg, and  Raymond H. Winton,  Indianapolis; two brothers,  Charles W., Alexandria;  and  Nelson,  of Canada; six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
          Funeral services will be held at the home where death occurred at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon, the Rev. R. A. Ragsdale, West Street M.E. church pastor, officiating.  Charles M. Ewing is in charge of burial which will be in the London cemetery.  Friends may call at the late home until the time of the funeral.

Cerebral Hemorrhage Fatal To Stephen A. Winton,
74, This Morning At Home

          Cerebral Hemorrhage resulted in the death of  Stephen A. Winton, 74 years old, at 4:00 a.m. today at his home at 821 Fair Avenue.  Mr. Winton had been ill for only a short time.
          The deceased was born in Shelby county on May 12, 1859, being at the time of death, 74 years, 11 months, and 26 days old.  He was the son of  Jesse  and  Louise Fox Winton.  On June 9, 1878, he was united in marriage with  Miss Amanda Garlitch  and to this union, seven sons were born, four of whom are living.  Mr. Winton was a member of the Red Men's lodge of Shelbyville.
          Survivors beside the widow and the sons, Archie Winton, and  Art Winton of Detroit, Michigan;  Omer Winton  of Pontiac, Michigan; and  Carl Winton  of Shelbyville, are brothers, Nicholas Winton  of Anderson, eight grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
          Funeral services will be conducted at the Trinity M.E. Church Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Josephine Huffer, pastor of the church, officiating.  Interment will be made in the Forest Hill cemetery, in charge of Charles M. Ewing, local funeral director.

          Mrs. Katy Angeline Winton, age 77 years, widow of  Riley Winton, died at her home in VanBuren township at 5:40 o'clock Monday morning.
          She was the daughter of  George  and  Mary Huffman  and had resided in this county for many years.  Five daughters and one son; Mrs. Anna Arnold, of Marion township;  Mrs. Ada Miller, of Liberty township;  Mrs. Rosanna Chapman, at home;  Mrs. Audrey Courtney, and  Mrs. Ina Drake, of this city, and  Harvey Winton, of Logansport, survive.  The deceased also leaves three brothers,  Enos Huffman, of Newcastle, and  James  and  Miles Huffman, of Shelbyville.
          Following short services at the home at two o'clock Wednesday afternoon, regular funeral rites will be conducted at the Liberty U.B. church at 2:30 o'clock with the Rev. E. R. Schwartz officiating.  Mrs. Winton was a member of this church.  Burial will be in the church cemetery in charge of Max Herrlich & Son, New Palestine, funeral directors.

COMMUNITY  SADDENED  BY
DEATH  OF  FARMER

          Enoch Frank Winton,  farmer of Van Buren township for many years and one of the best known residents of that community, died at 9:30 o'clock Friday night at his home south of Fountaintown of heart trouble and dropsy.  Mr. Winton's illness had been prolonged for the last eight weeks.
          Born in Missouri seventy-one years ago, Mr. Winton had spent the greater part of his life in Shelby county devoting his life to farming in VanBuren township.  He was much concerned in the growth of the community and in the betterment of the conditions among his neighbors and friends.  His willing help and kind assistance gave him a standing that give an unusual depth to the sadness that is felt at his passing.  He was a member of the K. of P. lodge at Fountaintown.
          The marriage of Mr. Winton and  Mrs. Delcena [Dulcina] Carmony  took place Dec. 25, 1875 and one daughter was born to the union.  Surviving is the widow and daughter,  Mrs. Winton and  Miss Ethel Carmony, two step-daughters,   Mrs. Harry Cole;  all of VanBuren township; one step-son,  John Carmony,  at home; one half-sister,  Mrs. Hattie French,  of Indianapolis and one half brother,  Benjamin Winton,  of Brandywine township, also eight grandchildren.
          Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the home, the Rev. Mr. Barclay, officiating.  Burial will be in the Concord cemetery.  The arrangements are in charge of Carmony Brothers, undertakers.

W. R. Wintin Died At Eleven O'Clock
Today At Home Near Fountaintown

WAS  A  RETIRED  FARMER

          W. R. Wintin, aged 69 years, passed away at his home four miles south of Fountaintown, at eleven o'clock this morning.  Death was caused from tuberculosis.  Mr. Wintin was a retired farmer and very well known in that community.  He was born December 15, 1853.
          He was a member of the M.P. church at Fairview and will be missed by a vast number of friends and relatives.
          He is survived by the widow, Mrs. Catherine Wintin, five daughters and one son. They are  Mrs. Ada Miller, of Blue Ridge;  Mrs. Audrey Courtney, of Waldron;  Mrs. Anna Arnold, of near this city;  Mrs. Rosanna Milton, of Fairmount, Indiana;  Mrs. Ina Drake, of Fountaintown and  Harvey Wintin  at home.  Nine grandchildren are also left to mourn his loss.
          Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at two-thirty o'clock at the Liberty church, the Rev. A.L. Wooten officiating.  Short services will also be held at the home at two o'clock.  Burial will take place in the church cemetery.

OBITUARY.

          Mrs. Mary Wintin, the eldest daughter of  James  and  Caroline Hughs, was born in Green county, Indiana, March 12, 1855, and departed this life July 16, 1920, at the age of 65 years, 3 months and 24 days.
          She came to Shelby county a number of years ago, was a resident of Carthage a few years.  She was united in marriage to  William Wintin, January 16, 1916, and for the year past she and Mr. Wintin have lived in London.  She was a patient, loving, wife and mother, every ready to do for those who were near to her, and she will be sadly missed by all of them.  She leaves to mourn her death, her husband, six daughters, three sons, 17 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two sisters, one brother and a number of other relatives and friends.
          Mother, you have gone and left us.  
          We, your children, so lonely here.  
          But we hope to some day meet you
          Where no partings ever come.

Harry Winton Dies In Home
Where Six Relatives Are Sick With Influenza

          Harry Winton, 30 years old, is dead at his home in Geneva, Noble township, south of here, where six others are sick of the disease it is said.  He had been ill ten days.
          He was born in Shelby County April 6, 1888, and had spent his entire life here.  He leaves the widow, four children, from two to eight years old.  He was married November 22, 1909.  Besides the parents he leaves four brothers, Arch  and  Art of  Indianapolis, Omer  and  Carl Winton, of this city.
          Mr. Winton's wife, four children and the brother Carl, have been sick at the home, but all are much improved it is said.  The brother has been removed to the home of his parents, in Walkerville, this city.  The brother recently returned from overseas, went to the home Sunday and there took ill.
          Funeral services will be held at the home at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning.  Burial will be made in Pleasant Grove cemetery.

          Sylvester Wintin, aged thirty-four years, died at his home in Anderson Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock.  Mr. Wintin's death was the result of a fall which he suffered more than one and one-half years ago, while employed as a lineman by the electric light company of Anderson.  He was injured internally at the time but was able to continue his work until about four months ago, since which time he has been confined to his bed.
          He leaves a widow, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Wintin  of Walkerville, two sons, Paul  and  Ralph Wintin, one daughter, Irene and five brothers.
          The funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock at the late home in Anderson and the interment will be made in the Anderson cemetery.

          Thomas H. Wintin, one of the most popular and best known young man in this city, died at the home of his brother, Arthur Wintin, in Meridian street today at 11:30 o'clock.  Death was caused by tuberculosis, from which the young man had suffered for many months.  He had spent nine months at the Tuberculosis hospital at Rockville, but had not been benefitted.  Mr. Wintin was a graduate in the Purdue school of Pharmacy and clerked in the Buxton store in this city for a time.  He was 27 years of age at the time of his death.  He is survived by his six brothers, Sylvester  of Anderson, Archie,  Arthur,  Henry,  Omer  and  Carl  of this city.  The funeral announcement will be made later by M.G. Tindall, who is in charge.

Well Known Young Man Passed
Away at Crawfordsville Today.

          Wiley Winton,  a well known young man of this city, died at the home of his sister in Crawfordsville, this morning at six o'clock, of tuberculosis.
          Mr. Winton had made his home in this city, but left just a week ago to visit a sister in Crawfordsville.  He has been afflicted with the dread disease for several years.  He is survived by a sister,  Mrs. Walter Nail,  and an aunt,  Mrs. Min? Dodd,  of this city.
          The remains will probably be interred in Crawfordsville, altho it has not positively been decided whether or not the remains will be brought to this city.  Mrs. Dodd and Mrs. Nail will leave this evening for Crawfordsville.

          Walter H.,  the seven-month-old son of  Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Winton,  died at their home in Van Buren township, at ten o'clock a.m. Thursday, April 15, 1897, of congestion of the brain.  Funeral services were held in the Liberty Church at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 16.  Rev. J. L. Barclay officiating.  Interment in the Liberty cemetery.  In charge of Edwards & Hageman.
