EDWARD  PRICE  DEAD;
TOOK  CARBOLIC  ACID
----------
Well Known Stone Cutter Of The City
Ended Own Life Today
After Sending Wife To Mail Letter
---------------
LEFT  NOTE  TO  MEMBERS  OF  FAMILY
-----------------------
Old Age And Asthma Assigned as the Cause of His Act
Mr. Price Was Native of  Liabadoc, Wales
----------
Edward Price, seventy-two years old, drank a quantity of carbolic acid this morning while at his home in North Noble street, alone, and died this afternoon at two-thirty o’clock.  Mr. Price was unconscious a short time after drinking the acid until the time of his death.
He left a note addressed to his family in which he stated that old age and asthma were the cause of his act.  The note was found on a bureau in his room by a member of the family.
Shortly after eleven o’clock this morning Mr. Price gave a letter to his wife and requested that she place it in a mail box for him.  While Mrs. Price was out of the house Mr. Price drank the acid.  He was found lying on the floor when she returned and was then unconscious.  Mrs. Price notified her son, who was at work in the stone yard and  Dr. Frank E. Bass  was summoned.  He worked with Mr. Price but was unable to save his life.
It is believed that he drank about two ounces of the acid.  A two ounce bottle which had contained acid was found in the house.  The members of the family did not know where Mr. Price obtained it.
"ASTHMA  HAS  GOT  ME"
The note, which was written by Mr. Price and which was found in the room of Mr. Price following his death read as follows:

"Old age and asthma has got me. I am down and out. Give my love to Florence.  She has been good to me.  Goodbye, mother, God Bless you.  Good bye."

          J. D. Price, a son of the deceased, stated this afternoon that his father had been in ill health for some time and of late had been discouraged.  This morning Mr. Price went to the home of  Robert Smith, in North Vine Street, to secure Mr. Smith to appraise some property he owned.  Following he returned to his home and there swallowed the acid which ended his life.
WAS  NATIVE  OF  WALES
Mr. Price was a native of Liambadoe, Wales.  He was born there in 1844. Mr. Price married in London, England to his present wife.  Shortly after their marriage they came to this country.  He was a resident of Shelbyville for a number of years.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Anna E. Price; three sons,  E. W. Price, Columbus, Ohio;  J. D. Price, Shelbyville;  Joe Price,  Norwood, Ohio; and two daughters,  Miss Florence M. Price, of Indianapolis, and  Miss Emily M. Price, of Norwood, Ohio.
Mr. Price and his brother, the late William Price, came to America from England, where they had many connections.  Both men were well educated and master stone cutters.  They resided in Shelbyville many years.  In the days when stone was much in use they cut the stone for almost all the buildings erected in this city.  They cut the stone for the Shelby County jail and they erected the beautiful home of  Mrs. W. S. Major  in West Washington street.  Much of the cut stone used by the city in former years was cut by them.
The time of the funeral will be announced later by Ralph J. Edwards.

DEATH  OF  WILLIAM  PRICE
----------
The Well Known Citizen And Faithful Contractor
Died This Morning
A Short Sketch of His Life
----------
(From Saturday’s Daily)
Many were the expressions of grief as the news became general that  William Price, Sr.  had passed away.  The death occurred at 9:20 this morning at his residence on north Pike street.
William Price was born in Usk, Monmouthshire, England, May 16, 1841, making him at the time of his death sixty-four years, seven months and twenty-seven days of age.  When a boy he became an apprentice to his father, who was a stone contractor.  Every one who knows how thoroughly the elemental business of trade is taught in England, will not be surprised at the good workmanship Mr. Price displayed on all his jobs.  After becoming an expert in stone construction work, Mr. Price came to America in 1871, and went to work with his brother  Edward, who had preceded him to this country and had located at Dayton.
In 1873 William Price moved to Indianapolis.  The first work he ever did in Shelbyville was on the First Baptist Church in 1875.  Mr. Price located in Shelbyville in the year 1876.
He has remained in Shelbyville since that time, and many of the finest business blocks and residences not only in Shelbyville but in Central Indiana, bear testimony to the workmanship, honesty of purpose and ability of  William Price, and the firm of  Price Brothers.
He was a staunch friend, his unswerving loyalty and unselfish attachment having proved of inestimable benefit to the many who have enjoyed his esteem.  In politics he was a democrat, believing in the principles of the party, and doing his utmost to disseminate that which he thought was right and just.
He was well read in standard literature, his familiarity with authors being extensive and full of profit to himself.  The writer has heard many lectures who have recited the poems of Burns, the famous Scottish poet, but none of these celebrities could interpret as well as could Mr. Price.
There survives a brother, Edward Price, of this city; a sister, Mrs. Mary Rosser, in England; a son, William Jr., of this city; a wife, in England, and one daughter, also on the "fast anchored isle."
Mr. Price will be buried Tuesday afternoon at two o’clock in Forest Hill cemetery.  The remains may be viewed from two to six o’clock Monday afternoon and from nine to twelve on Tuesday.
