Geneva Potter

          Geneva Potter,  81, of Shelbyville died Friday, Dec. 11, 2009, at her home.  Born Dec. 8, 1928, in Lebanon, Ky., she was the daughter of  George Alvin and  Edith (Bright) Spurling.  She married  Gene Potter  on April 5, 1947, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 20, 1988.
          Survivors include her fiance,  Frederick Mason  of Shelbyville; son,  Greg Potter  of Underwood; daughter,  Beth Potter  and  Gina Karnes,  both of Shelbyville; foster son,  Dennis Wayman  of Shelbyville; sister,   Genevieve Kelly  of Shelbyville; brothers,  John Spurling  of Edinburgh and  George Spurling  of Shelbyville; grandchildren,  Silvia Potter,  Andres Potter,  Jennifer Shugert,  Lindsay Potter,  Mackenzie Karnes  and  Larry Karnes, Jr.,  great-grandchildren,  Kyle Snapp, Kayleb Snapp  and  Kennedy Martin;  and the children of her longtime companion  Malcolm Ray Buckley,  Craig Buckley,  Alexis Green  and  Rise Smith.  She also was preceded in death by her parents; brother,  James Spurling;  and her longtime companion Malcolm Ray Buckley.
          Mrs. Potter moved to Shelby County 1943 from Kentucky.  She was a homemaker and beautician.  She owned and operated First Lady Beauty Salon.  Mrs. Potter graduated from Waldron High School in 1946.  She was a member of the West Street United Methodist Church; American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 70; founder of Y's Bees Home Economics Club, serving as president for many years; Red Hat Society, St. Joseph Social Club; Shelby County Human Services Inc. Board of Directors and the Fun Bunch from Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home.
          Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road.  Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Revs. Carl Ewick and Perry Richards officiating.  Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to West Street U.M.C.; Hospice of South Central Indiana; or Benesse Oncology Center in care of the funeral home.
