FORMER  LOCAL  MAN
DIES  IN  WASHINGTON

Lambert Pollitt Formerly Lived in Shelbyville
----------
        Word has been received here of the death of  Lambert H. Pollitt, former resident who succumbed Wednesday in Washington D.C.
        The body will arrive here Friday at 9:39 a.m. and funeral services will be held Saturday at the Ralph J. Edwards funeral home, with Rev. Ernest L. Ford, pastor of the First Christian church, officiating. Members of Chillon lodge No. 129, Knights of Pythias, of which the deceased was a member, will serve as pallbearers.
        Survivors are five children,  Mrs. W. E. Becker,  Mrs. Art Johnson,  Mrs. K. D. Cartwright  and  Chester and  Orpheus Pollitt.  The wife of the deceased,  Mrs. Permelia Ann Pollitt  preceded him in death.

Aunt of Shelbyville Resident Passes Away
----------
        Mrs. Permelia Pollitt, wife of [Lambert] Hyland Pollitt, died at her home in Indianapolis at 7:40 o’clock Wednesday night.
        Mrs. Pollitt, who was 80 years old at the time of her death is an aunt of  Mrs. Irl Burkher  and  Jerry Stiers of this city and a sister of  Samuel H. Stiers of Marion township. Other survivors include the husband, three daughters, two sons and several nieces and nephews.
        Funeral services are to be held at the home at 11 o’clock Saturday morning after which the body will be brought to the family lot at Forest Hill cemetery where short services will be held at 1:00 o’clock.

        Carey Pollitt, 60 years old, former resident of this city, died at his home in Circleville Tuesday night.
        Funeral services will be held at the Moster mortuary in Rushville Friday afternoon at 1:30 and burial will be in the Forest Hill cemetery, here.
        Survivors are the widow, and the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lambert Pollitt of Indianapolis.

Mrs. Sarah Pollitt Passes Away
at Home of Daughter

        Mrs. Sarah Pollitt, formerly of this city, died Wednesday evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Anna M. Cooke, in Whiteland, Indiana.  She had made her home with the daughter for the past twenty years.  A son, Charles Pollitt, south Miller street, this city, also survives her.  She was a member of the Wheat Sheaf Council, the Pythian Sisters and the Rebekahs, all of this city.  Funeral will be held Friday morning at 10 o’clock.  Burial in Forest Hill Cemetery.

AGED LADY DIES IN GWYNNEVILLE

Mrs. Ann Evans Pollitt, Native of England, Succumbed Sunday Afternoon

EIGHTY-THREE YEARS OLD
----------
          Mrs. Ann Evans Pollitt,  native of Dudley, England, died at 4:17 o’clock Sunday morning at her home in Gwynneville, where she had resided for the past 72 years.  At the time of death she was 83 years of age.
          Mrs. Pollitt was born in Dudley, England, on February 21, 1848, the daughter of  Thomas and  Mary Ann Pitt Evans.  At the age of five years she, with her grandparents, parents, uncles, aunts and cousins, numbering fourteen in all, left Liverpool for New York. One cousin died on the way over and was buried at sea.  After six weeks and two days on the ocean they landed in New York City.  They came to Madison, Indiana, by boat from Albany, New York, and then came to Shelbyville by train.  The family settled in Gwynneville, then moved to Fairland and two years later moved back to Gwynneville.
          The deceased was married to  Alexander D. Pollitt  on June 6, 1881 and the one child,  Hubert D. Pollitt,  born to them died at the age of four years.  Her husband died on June 8, 1892.  Mrs. Pollitt was the last of the thirteen persons who journeyed to the country from England in 1853.  A cousin, Edward Evans, of Gwynneville survives and there are also several first cousins in England, Canada and Illinois surviving.
          Early in life Mrs. Pollitt became a member of the Disciples of Christ church in Morristown and later she transferred her membership to the Gwynneville church.
          Funeral services will be held at the latter church on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock with the Rev. Burns officiating.  Burial will be in the Hanover cemetery.

DEATH  OF  EDWARD  POLLITT

Passed Away After An Illness of Several Weeks
----------
        After an illness covering a period of the past eight weeks, Edward Pollitt died at his home in east Franklin street, at 12:35 o’clock this morning, having fallen asleep at 9 o’clock Monday night, from which he never awakened.
        Mr. Pollitt was a resident of this city for many years.  He was well known in Shelbyville and Shelby county, making hundreds of acquaintances while he was in the employment of the William Worden harness shop, having held a position at that place for at least twelve years before his fatal illness.  His death resulted from a complication of diseases.  Mr. Pollitt, at the time of his death was aged forty-two years, four months and six days.
        Five years ago his father died and since that time he has been the support of his widowed mother.  About two years age he was united in marriage.  He is survived by his widow, his mother, Mrs. Sarah Pollitt, a brother, Charles, all of this city, and a sister, Mrs. Frederick Cook, of Indianapolis.
        The deceased was a member of Kiowa Tribe of Red Men, No. 199, of this city, and the Knights of Pythias lodge of Morristown.  The interment will be in Forest Hill cemetery.
        "Ed," as he was called, had hundreds of friends and he was a favorite among them.  He always had a pleasant word for every one, and he will be greatly admired by all who knew him

        The funeral services of the late Edward J. Pollitt, will be held Friday morning at his late home in east Franklin street, at 10 o’clock, under the auspices of Kiowa Tribe of Red Men, of this city, and Navarre Lodge, Knights of Pythias, of Morristown. Rev. Cloyd Goodnight, pastor of the First Christian church, will officiate.  The interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.

DEATHS  &  FUNERALS

        Mrs. Nancy Pollitt, eighty-five years of age, died at her home in Gwynneville Thursday morning of tuberculosis.  Mrs. Pollitt was one of the oldest settlers in Shelby county, where she has lived the greater part of her life.  She had been ill with consumption for several years.  The deceased is survived by six children and several grandchildren.  The funeral services were conducted from the Gwynneville Christian Church by the pastor this morning at ten thirty o’clock.  The remains were buried in the Morristown cemetery.

        Obediah N. Pollitt, about fifty-nine years old, died at his home in east Franklin street at 10:10 o’clock last night.  He leaves a wife and three children, two boys and a girl.  The deceased, until his last sickness, was employed at the Conrey-Birely furniture factory, where he had worked for five years.  He came to this city from Morristown.  The deceased had a son-in-law, Ed Cook, of Rushville, whose wife was at the bedside of her father at the time of his death.  He is expected this evening and funeral arrangements will not be made until his arrival.  The funeral services will probably be held on Friday morning, if no changes are made after his arrival.  The interment will be made in Forest Hill cemetery.  The remains are in charge of a Greenfield undertaking firm.

(Gwynneville, Indiana February 25, 1902)
         Alford Pollitt died of paralysis Friday night, after a sickness of but a few hours. Friday morning he was in his usual health and attended church, returning home at twelve o’clock.  He was eating his noon lunch when the stroke came upon him, and towards evening lost consciousness and at ten o’clock he passed away.  His near relatives were all present. Except one son, who did not reach home until Saturday morning.  Funeral services were held at the Christian church by Rev. A. Burns. Interment in the Hanover cemetery.  His will will be probated this week.

        Philander, son of Alfred Pollitt, of Hanover township, died on November 19, age twenty years, of consumption.  The remains were interred in Hanover Cemetery at ten o’clock on Sunday evening.  C. W. Morrison funeral director.
