DIES  AT  HOME

Rites for Local Man To
Be Conducted Monday

          Michael (Bert) Phipps,73, died at his home on Doran Ave., at the south edge of this city at 7:45 this morning.  He had been in failing health for several years and became seriously ill last Sunday.  A lifelong resident of Shelby county and former employee of the old Porter Mirror Works for 48 years, Mr. Phipps was born in Addison township on December 10, 1879.  He was the son of  Harvey and  Hattie (Hines) Phipps.  He was a member of the West Street Methodist Church and the Knights of Pythias lodge.
          On October 17, 1907, he was married to  Gertrude Watts  who survives with five children,  William Elbert and  Mary Martha Phipps  at home;  Lawrence  of this city;  Donald R. Phipps,  of Brookville, member of the Indiana State Police stationed at Connersville, and  Carl Phipps  of Waldron R. R.  Also surviving are five grandchildren and one sister,  Mrs. Eva Burton  of Piqua, O.
          Funeral services will be held at the Ewing Mortuary Monday at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. F. P Bedwell officiating.  Interment will be at Forest Hill cemetery.  Friends may call at the mortuary after 7:00 p.m. Saturday.
