Lewis McDaniel, 89, Waldron

          Lewis McDaniel, 89, Waldron, died at 4 a.m. Sunday, March 21 at Waldron Health Care in Waldron.
          Born Feb. 7, 1915 in Shelby County, he was the son of  Harry McDaniel and  Bertha (Byrd) McDaniel.  He married Wilma Mae (Banister) McDaniel on Oct. 29, 1945 and she preceded him in death on Feb. 10, 1990.
          A lifetime resident of Shelby County and a self-employed farmer for 45 years, he retired in 1975, graduated from Waldron High School and attended Blue Ridge Christian Union Church.  He was also an avid historian and collector of Indian artifacts.
          He is survived by two sons,  Mike (Cindy) McDaniel  of Waldron and  Richard (Becky) McDaniel of Lafayette; a brother,  Forrest (Frosty) McDaniel of Waldron; six grandchildren,  Andrew and Todd McDaniel, both of Waldron,  Erin McDaniel of Chicago,  Sarah McDaniel and  Katie McDaniel both of Lafayette and  Angela McDaniel of Waldron.
          Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother,  Robert and two sisters,  Gladys McDaniel  and  Helen Cummings.
          Funeral service is at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home with Rev. James Farnsley officiating.  Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Cemetery in Blue Ridge.  Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
          Memorials may be made to Hospice of Shelby County or the Blue Ridge Christian Union Church

Edna N. McDaniel, 97, of Morristown, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, Waldron.
Born April 29, 1904, in Shelby County, d/o William Clayton and Ailcy Elizabeth (Linville) Davis.  Married  Ozro Emerson McDaniel  on Sept. 11, 1926.  He preceded her in death on April 19, 1991.
Survivors include two sons, Emerson Dale McDaniel  and  Warren Richard McDaniel, both of Shelbyville; three daughters, Mrs. Van (Evelyn) Anderson  and  Mrs. Russell (Marilyn) Ramsey, both of Morristown, and  Mrs. Seth (Carolyn) Martin  of Shelbyville; one brother, Reuben Davis  of Shelbyville; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Also was preceded in death by one sister, Mrs. Orville (Ruth) Branson  and three brothers, Clark Davis,  Frank Davis  and  John Davis.
Homemaker and member of Morristown Church of the Nazarene, Shelby County Farm Bureau and Merry Mixers Home Ec Club.
Morristown Church of the Nazarene, U.S. Highway 52 in Morristown, with the Rev. Leon Davis officiating.
Burial will be in Asbury Cemetery in Morristown.
Frazier Funeral Home, 124 E. North St. in Morristown.

Paul R. McDaniel, 82, a lifelong Shelby County resident, died Sunday at his home.
Born October 27, 1917, he was the son of  Ernest and Laura (Kney) McDaniel.
Mr. McDaniel was a farmer.
He had been a member of Shelby County Farm Bureau since 1937.
Survivors include one son, Donald R. McDaniel, Waldron; two grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Glen E. George and Son Funeral Home, Shelbyville, with the Revs. Ron Riggs and Robb Barlow officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
Friends may visit from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation in care of the funeral home.

County Farmer Was Ill for Three Years
----------
          Ernest A. McDaniel, 78, prominent Shelby county landowner whose home was on south State Road 9, died at Major Hospital Sunday at 11:00 a.m. He had been ill with a complication of diseases for three years and his condition had been serious for six months.
          Born near Blue Ridge on July 17, 1879, Mr. McDaniel was the son of  Charles and Bell (Ensminger) McDaniel.  He had been a farmer for 40 years and prior to that taught in the Shelby county schools for 13 years.  He was a former Sunday school teacher at the Blue Ridge C. U. and the Lewis Creek Baptist churches.
          He was married March 30, 1910, to  Laura Kney  who preceded in death on October 8, 1936.  He is survived by a son, Paul McDaniel, at home, one grandson, Donald Ray McDaniel, and several nieces and nephews.
          The Rev. R. C. McNeely, assisted by Rev. Marvin Isley, will officiate at last rites Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in the Carmony Funeral Home in this city.  Burial will be in Forest Hill cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home after 7:00 p.m. today.

Waldron Resident, 77, Dies
in Indianapolis

          Roy McDaniel, 77, widely known and lifelong resident of Shelby county, died at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis at 6:50 this morning following an illness of 18 months.  He had been hospitalized almost a month.
          Born in Liberty township on September 18, 1877, he was the son of  Charles and Bell (Ensminger) McDaniel.  Early in life Mr. McDaniel was a farmer and in 1917 moved to Waldron where he had since lived.  He formed the corporation for the Waldron Home Lumber Company in 1919 and was one of the incorporators for the Home Telephone Company in Waldron.  He installed the telephone company’s dial system in 1947.
          He was married to  Anna May Fetig  on February 26, 1902, and her death occurred on 1943.  He is survived by a brother, Ernest McDaniel  of south Riley Highway, and several nieces and nephews.
          Mr. McDaniel was a member of the Waldron Methodist Church and for several years served as a trustee of the church and also as secretary of the board of trustees for the church.
          Funeral services, in charge of the Sleeth Funeral Home, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Waldron Methodist Church with Rev. Amos Bastin of Indianapolis officiating.  Interment will be in Temple Hill Mausoleum.  Friends may call at the late home in Waldron after 2:00 p.m. Thursday.

MRS.  M’DANIEL  DIES  AT  HOME

          Ill with a cold only since last Tuesday, Mrs. Anna M. McDaniel, died suddenly at 2:00 a.m. Monday at her home in Waldron, after suffering a stroke during the night.
          A lifelong resident of Liberty township, Mrs. McDaniel was a member of the Waldron Methodist church and took an active past in all its affairs.
          Funeral services will be held at the Waldron Methodist church. The Rev. Chester Scott, pastor, and Rev. Amos Bastin, of Aurora, former pastor of the church will officiate. The body will be placed in Temple Hill Mausoleum here. D. E. Carmony, funeral director in charge, announced that friends may call at the residence at any time.
          Mrs. McDaniel was the daughter of  Jacob and Margaret (Eck) Fetig, and was born in Liberty township August 2, 1880.  She was married to Mr. [Roy] McDaniel February 26, 1902.  Surviving with the husband are a sister, Mrs. Clem [Flora M.] Sever, of Waldron; two nieces and a nephew.

Former Resident of Shelbyville Had Served
as Fair Secretary for Number of Years

          "Erastus W. McDaniel, attorney in Shelbyville for the past 40 years and known throughout Rush county and the state for his activities in the Old Shelby County Joint Stock Agricultural Association, as well as in state fair events, died Wednesday at his home, one mile east of Middletown, in Orange township, Rush county.
          "Mr. McDaniel had been in failing health over a period of several months, but his condition had been critical for only the past few weeks. Death was the result of a complication of diseases.
          "Funeral services are to be conducted at 10 o'clock Friday morning from the late home with the Rev. Boyd E. Tryon, pastor of the St. Paul M.E. church officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery.
          "Mr. McDaniel, a member of the Shelby County Bar Association, had practiced law in Shelbyville for nearly a half century and he was one of the most highly respected attorneys of the community. Until recently, he had resided in Shelbyville, but the past several months he had resided on the Orange township farm where his death occurred. During his entire lifetime he had been active in the affairs of the Democratic party, having served four years as deputy to the reporter of the supreme court and as attorney for Shelby County. In 1924, Mr. McDaniel was a candidate for the Democratic nomination for joint-senator from Shelby, Rush and Fayette counties.
          "For many years he was deeply interested in the affairs of the Shelby County Joint Stock Agricultural Association, which was disbanded a few years ago after sponsoring Shelby county fairs for more than half a century. Mr. McDaniel served for several years as secretary of the association and he was likewise interested in the Indiana State Fair. His fair associations broadened his acquaintance through- out the state and he was known as a promoter of great ability.
          "He was a member of the St. Paul M.E. church and the Waldron Odd Fellows Lodge.
          "The son of Andrew J. and Emaline McDaniel, he was born in Jasper County, Illinois, February 28, 1863, being at the time of his death 70 years, 5 months and 28 days old. On December 2, 1892, he was united in marriage with Miss Eva Lantz and to this union one son, Frank L. McDaniel, was born. Besides the widow and son, who lives in Adams township, Decatur county, he is survived by three grandchildren, Jack, Marilyn and Bobby McDaniel, and two nephews, Roy McDaniel of Waldron, and Ernest McDaniel of Shelbyville."

          "Mrs. Belle McDaniel, 79, died at the Major Hospital, at 8 p.m. on Sunday. Death was due to a fall received at the home of her son, Roy McDaniel, of Waldron, July 12.
          "She was the widow of Charles McDaniel, who preceded her in death in 1923.
          "She was born in Shelby County, near Blue Ridge, Aug. 21, 1857, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chatman Ensminger.
          "Mrs. McDaniel was married in 1876 to Charles McDaniel and to this union two sons, Roy, of Waldron, and Ernest McDaniel, of Blue Ridge, were born. She was a member of the Christian Union church of Blue Ridge.
          "Funeral services will be held at the home near Blue Ridge at 2 p.m. Tuesday, in charge of the Rev. Amos Bastin, of Waldron, and the Rev. O.J. McMullen, of Shelbyville. Burial will be in Forest Hill cemetery in charge of Ezra Carmony, funeral director."

Funeral Services to Be Held at Late Home Saturday, 2 p. m.

          "Funeral services for Mrs. Laura McDaniel, wife of Ernest McDaniel, who died at 12:15 p. m. Thursday at her home, one mile south of Shelbyville on State Road 9, will be held at the late home at 2 p. m. Saturday.
          "The Rev. J.W. Dickmann, pastor of the Zion Evangelical church, will officiate and burial will be in the Forest Hill cemetery in charge of Ezra Carmony, funeral director. The deceased was born in in Orange township, Rush county, on March 29, 1885. She had lived for the past seventeen years at the home where her death occurred; she was united in marriage to Mr. McDaniel on March 30, 1910. One son, Paul, at home, survives with the husband.
          "Besides the husband and son Mrs. McDaniel is survived by two brothers, Conrad Kney, of Manilla and Edward Kney, of Waldron and five sisters, Addie Harcourt, Rushville; Elizabeth Gahimer, Manilla; Flora Meal, St. Paul; Emma Hungerford, Rushville and Minnie Kney, Waldron.
          "She was a member of the Blue Ridge Christian church."

Had Been Taken to Hospital Recently

          Harry McDaniel, age forty-one, who was taken to the state hospital for the insane at Madison, last week, died at the Madison hospital Sunday morning at one o’clock.  It was stated that his death was caused by heart trouble.  Mr. McDaniel was a farmer and had lived one and one-half miles south of Blue Ridge.
          He had lived in the Blue Ridge Waldron communities practically all of his life, and was a member of the Christian Union church at Blue Ridge.
          Besides the widow, Mrs. Bertha (Bird) McDaniel, he leaves a daughter, Mrs. Helen Cummins, of Waldron; two sons, Louis, 12, and  Forest, 9, at home; his mother, Mrs. Belle McDaniel, of near Blue Ridge; and two brothers, Roy McDaniel, of Waldron, and  Ernest McDaniel, of near Shelbyville.
          Funeral services will be held at the Vienna church Tuesday afternoon at one-thirty o’clock, the Rev. O. J. McMullen officiating, assisted by the Rev. C. B. Atkinson, of Waldron.  Burial will be made in the Blue Ridge cemetery, Carmony Brothers in charge.

FUNERAL  SERVICE  TODAY

          Charles McDaniel, of Liberty township, died at his home after a lingering illness of paralysis on Saturday evening.  Short funeral services were held at his late residence this afternoon at two o’clock and interment was made in Forest Hill cemetery, Charles M. Ewing in charge.
          Mr. McDaniel was born in St. Omer, Decatur County, Indiana, on December 6th, 1851, and was at the time of his death 72 years, 3 months and 29 days of age.  He was the second son of  Andrew J. and Emeline (Palmerton) McDaniel.  When he was about four years of age his parents removed with their small family to Jasper county, Illinois, where they remained twelve years and in 1867 the family removed back to Indiana, locating on the farm in Liberty township where decedent departed life.  In 1876, he was married to  Mahala I. Ensminger, who survives him, and they are the parents of four children, three boys and one daughter, the boys being all well known residents of Shelby county.  Roy McDaniel, of Waldron,  Ernest A. McDaniel  of near Shelbyville and  Harry McDaniel  of near Blue Ridge and the daughter being  Mina Kney  wife of  Conrad Kney  of near Manilla.  Deceased leaves five grandchildren,  Maurice Kney,  Helen McDaniel,  Lewis McDaniel,  Forest  and  Paul McDaniel.  Of the original family only one brother of decedent, Erastus McDaniel  survives.
          Mr. McDaniel was a quiet, industrious citizen, well regarded for his good qualities and a man who had careful thrift and labor accumulated a respectable farm and some property besides.  He had never held elective office except for township assessor.  He was a member of Odd Fellows having membership in both the Subordinate and Encampment branches.  He had been for many years a faithful member and attendant of the Christian Union Church of Blue Ridge.  In politics he was always a Democrat.
          His loss to the community is one that will be felt by many.  His life is an example of splendid and contented American Citizenship.  He had many friends and few enemies.  Plain, modest and unassuming he was ever ready to perform any neighborly kindness and greatest desire was to be useful to all about him.  His sickness and suffering had been extended over many weeks but he had borne it all with fortitude and little complaint.

          SHELBYVILLE.  Miss Emma McDaniel,  69 years old, a sister of  E. W. McDaniel,  deputy recorder of the Sumpreme Court, died suddenly here Thursday of heart disease.  Another brother,  Charles of Blue Ridge, survives.

John B. McDaniel Passed Away at Freeport
After Illness of One Year

          John B. McDaniel, aged sixty-four years, eight months and twenty-one days, died at his home in Freeport at two-forty o'clock this morning from a complication of diseases following an illness of more than a year.
          Mr. McDaniel was a brother of E.W. McDaniel, the well-known attorney of this city, now deputy reporter of the supreme court. He had been a merchant in Freeport and Gowdy, Rush county, for the past thirty years and was well known in this county and in Rush. The earlier part of his life was spent on the farm, his parents being the late Andrew J. and Emeline (Palmerton) McDaniel.
          Mr. McDaniel had been a resident of Freeport for the past four years. A little over a year ago his health failed and he sold his store, but continued to live in Freeport. His wife died about twenty years ago and he leaves no children. He leaves another brother, Charles McDaniel,  of Liberty township, and a sister, Ermina McDaniel.
          The body was brought to the home of E.W. McDaniel, of Harrison Avenue, this afternoon, and the cortege will leave the McDaniel residence Sunday afternoon at twelve-thirty o'clock for Blue Ridge Cemetery for interment.  Short services will be held at the grave, the Rev. O. J. McMullen officiating. Homer Lodge I.O.O.F., of which the deceased was a member, will take an active part in the burial ceremonies.  D. B. Wilson & Son, funeral directors.
