Mrs. Haehl, whose maiden name was Zeisz, was born in Germany.  She moved to Shelby county with her parents when only six years of age, and has always resided in Union township since that time.  She certainly was one of the pioneers of this county, having continuously resided in the same township for seventy-four years.  When a mere slip of a girl she married George Haehl, who died in 1855.  Nothing daunted by the fact that she had a family of small children, Mrs. Haehl managed to give each of them a good education, and to accumulate a nice competency of this world's goods.  She is survived by one son and three daughters,  George Haehl and  Mrs. Caroline Witz, of Union township, and  Mrs. Rosena Theobald, of this city.  One sister, Mrs. Henrietta Rapp, of this city, also survives.  The funeral cortege will leave the home of the deceased at 10 o'clock Sunday morning.  The services will be held in the Mt. ----------
After a Lingering Illness This
Popular Young Man Passes Away
----------
Milton H. Haehl, died at the home of his sister, Mrs. Daniel Deprez, corner of Franklin and Noble streets, at five o’clock p.m. Tuesday, July 3rd, aged thirty years and eight months.  He was born near Manilla, Rush county, October 15, 1866, and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. James* M. Haehl, now of this city.  He was married to Miss Minnie Riley, of St. Louis, July 12, 1893, while attending College of Pharmacy, in that city.  Funeral services will be held at the home of  Mrs. Daniel Deprez, his sister, at 5 o’clock p.m. Thursday.  Funeral will be private. Rev. J. C. Caldwell will officiate, assisted by Rev. R. M. Moore.  The casket will be open to the friends from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday.  Interment in Forest Hill cemetery.  The pallbearers will be  James Clark,  Gus Deprez,  Frank Strong,  George Flaitz,  John Day Deprez,  Richard Ellis.
While the death of Mr. Haehl has been anticipated for some time it comes none the less as a shock to his many friends.  From the time he came here to live he was very popular with all who knew him and there are not many people in this place who were not acquainted with him.  He was a gentleman at all times, courteous to all and a true friend with his associates.  In the various places he filled he performed the trusts imposed on him with a fidelity that was a continual pleasure to his employers.  When the disease that finally caused his death took hold of him he was the Clerk and Book keeper in the office of the Water Works and Electric Light Company.  He went to Colorado in the hope his health would be restored and after remaining there a number of months he returned to this place since which time his home has been with his sister, Mrs. Daniel Deprez.  Every possible thing was done to stay the hand of the Grim Destroyer, but the verdict was made, and the soul of  Harry Haehl  passed into the great beyond; went to bourne from whence no traveler has ever returned to tell of what is there; went to a home not made by hands, but which is eternal in the heavens.  He leaves behind his parents, who now bow to the inevitable in their sorrow and loving sisters and an affectionate brother who mourn his untimely death.  It is a great solace at such a time to know that Harry, as he was familiarly called, was always honest, always true, always mindful of those about him.  His good traits were many and they will live forever in the minds of his relatives and in the memory of his friends.

The Tragedy Occurring in the Rear of
Gardner's Meat Shop on South
Harrison Street.
----------
For Whom He had Been Working, at a

Minutes Later.
----------
The crack of a revolver, succeeded by the screams of  Mrs. George Gardner,  in a few moments crowded the meat-shop kept by the latteres' husband, on South Harrison street, at a quarter past eleven o'clock this morning, and a glance revealed to those who went in the cause, which was the almost lifeless body of  Harry Haehl,  aged twenty-one, who was lying in a corner of the second rrom back of the shop, used for trying out lard, the blood slowly trickling from a ragged hole in his right temple, w hile in his had he held a thirty-two calibre revolver, the smoke curling slowly from it away.  Human skill was of no avail, however, for he had done his work well, and in less than ten minutes, without a word, his troubled spirit stood in the presence of his Creator.
Coroner Badger  being absent, having gone to Manilla to hold an inquest on the body of  John Gunning, a search of the pockets of the deceased was made under the direction of  'Squire A. J. Higgins,  resulting in the finding of several letters from from his absent father and sister, but not a word that would throw any light upon his motive in taking his life.  From Mrs. Gardner it was learned that he had been threatening to take his life for some time giving as his reason that he was mistreated by his folks, and also that he had nothing to do, Mr. Gardner having settled with him on the 20th, having no more work for him to do.  As to his being badly treated at home, that is not true, from the testimony of those who know, who say that he has not been at his home since last September, his mother, a hard-working woman, having been assisted by the Ladies Benevolent Society, he refusing to help her.  Mr. Gardner said to the Democrat man, that Harry had been especially gloomy for the past two days, one cause of complaint being that someone had got into his room over Mathews' saloon, night before last, and robbed him of ten dollars.  To Mr. Gardner he never made any threats against his life, saying nothing of the kind to anyone but the latter's wife.  Ten minutes before the tragedy Harry went into  Harney's saloon, next door to Gardner's shop, and called for some whisky.  After drinking it he lit a cigar, which he did not smoke more than a minute or two until he threw it down and went out the back way, entering the rear of the meat-shop, where he immediately placed the revolver against his temple and fired.
The body was removed to his home on John street, and the coroner will hold an inquest to-night.
