          Cody Ryan Day,  age 22, of Connersville, died as a result of a tragic apartment fire in Lafayette, IN on April 24, 2014.  He is the son of Michael E. Day of Connersville and the late Amanda Stepp Day. Cody was born in Shelbyville, IN on October 14, 1991.  He graduated from Connersville Sr. High School in 2010 and had attended classes at Ivy Tech. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. In high school he played football and was a member of the wrestling team.  He enjoyed snowboarding, wakeboarding, water sports, hunting and fishing and was an avid fan of the Denver Broncos.  He was a machine operator in Greenfield, IN at Avery Dennison.
          He is survived by his father and step mother,  Michael & Machelle Day of Connersville; two brothers,  Ty Austin Day  of Dayton, OH and  Caleb Michael Day  of Connersville; paternal grandparents,  Michael Sr. & Sally Day  of New Castle; maternal grandparents,  John & Karen Stepp  of Shelbyville; uncles and aunts,  Tim & Sandra Day,  Wendy & Cliff Decker  and  Melody & Gregg Lemmons  as well as many cousins.  In addition to his mother, he is preceded in death by a grandmother,  Georgeann Day;  an infant brother,  Jared Daniel Day  and an uncle John G. Stepp.
          Funeral services will be conducted at Urban Winkler Funeral Home on Wednesday April 30, 2014 at 1:00 pm with Rev. John Reynolds officiating.  Burial will follow at Dale Cemetery.

Mrs. Zella Day, 53, Former Resident
Here, Dies in Canada Hospital

          Estell Platt,  of this city, today received word of the death of his sister,  Mrs. Zella Day,  a former resident of Shelbyville, which occurred in a hospital at North Battlesford, Saskatchewan, Canada, where she had made her home for several years.  Funeral services were conducted last Thursday.
          Mrs. Day was the daughter of the late  Simeon and  Clara Hackney Platt,  and was born in Hendricks township, Shelby county, in 1881.  She was fifty-three years old at the time of death.
          Survivors include three brothers,  Ivory L. Platt,  of London, England;  Charles C. Platt,  of Silver Springs, Saskatchewan, Canada;  Estell Platt, of this city, and one sister,  Mrs. Pearl Lee  of Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada; and a half-brother and sister,  Will Platt,  of Twin Oaks, Indiana, and  Mrs. George Marshall,  of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
