Had Attempted Suicide About 12

---- Funeral Thursday.
----------
Jacob L. Coers,  55 years old, widely known farmer of Shelby county, committed suicide Tuesday evening at 6 o'clock at his home, two and a half miles east of Shelbyville, by shotting himself in the head.  Despondency over the condition of his health, which had been very precarious for many years, is believed by members of his family to have caused his deed.
Mr. Coers had made an attempt to end his life about 12 years ago, but was prevented on that occasion.  He had expressed the desire to die on a number of occasions, because of his suffering from ill health.  However, he gave no intimation during the day that he was in any greater suffering than usual.  He was alone at the house for about an hour Tuesday evening while members of the family had gone to the barn to perform the evening chores.  He stood on the rear porch at the house and placing the barrel of a heavy shotgun to his head, pulled the trigger and the full charge entered the right side of the head, causing instant death.  Members of the family rushed from the barn to the house and found the body of Coers, lying on the porch.
Mr. Coers was born and reared in Shelby county and was also very well known in this city.  He supplied a number of families here with farn produce and had an extensive acquaintanceship among local people.  He was born March 23, 1867, and had always resided on a farm.
Surviving him is the widow,  Mrs. Elizabeth [Stohry] Coers,  five son,  Roy Coers,  of this city;  Floyd,  Herbert,  Lewis,  and  Arthur,  at home; five brothers,  August Coers  and  Fred Coers,  of Rush county;  John Coers,  of Morristown, Ind.;  Lawrence Coers  of Addison township; and  Daniel Coers,  of this city; one sister,  Mrs. Edmond Kuhn,  of Union township.  There are also two grandchildren.
The funeral services will be held at the Mt. Pisgah church, Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, the  Rev. John Reece  officiating.  Burial will be made in the Mt. Pisgah cemetery.  Robert Stewart, undertaker, is in charge of the arrangements.
