The following is my
draft write-up for a family history I am writing:
William
H. Lemasters
William H. Lemasters was born in 1849, probably in Decatur County,
Indiana. He was the second child of
Benjamin and Nancy Meyers Lemasters. He was a member of the seventh generation
of our line living in America.
William was a teamster and owned a team of work horses and a commercial
wagon. He
married Georgiana Roberts on May 5, 1869.*
Sometime prior to May 1880 he was married for a second time to Mary A.
(Ann?) ________. While he and his
second wife do not appear in the 1910 U. S. Census for Greensburg, they
apparently returned about 1918 to live there and care for their young grandson,
Charles Harold, after he was orphaned by deaths of his father, Carl, on October
25, 1918 and his mother, Rosa, on January 25, 1919.
The dates of death are not presently known for William or ei ther of his
wives.

I have a copy of marriage certificate confirming names and date.

I also have a second quest not related to William H., but rather to my father
Carl Raymond Lemasters.
Another researcher uncovered one tantalizing tidbit concerning him.
In the Greensburg Standard
newspaper of 31 January 1919, page 5, column 5:
Lemasters-Hollis
Raymond Lemasters and Miss Lula Hollis stole a march on their friends
yesterday and went to Carrolton, Kentucky where they were united in marriage.
Miss Lula Hollis is the daughter of Mrs. Lon Brooks and the groom is the
son of Mrs. Carl Lemasters. He has
just received his discharge from the army.
It will be recalled that he gave a quart of blood recently in the hope of
saving the life of a soldier comrade. The
News extends congratulations and best wishes to the young couple.
The answer to the above item is deviling to me because Lula was NOT my
mother. My father married my
mother, Cora Magdeline Eckel, in
St. Patrick Church, Indiana Harbor on October 23, 1923.
What happened to Lula is my current mystery.
I
did a little checking in Carrollton. Learned
that county marriage records in Frankford only go back to 1958.
I have checked with the Carrollton Clerk's office.
They were unable to find any marriage application or certificate.
I asked them about the possibility of an elopement and marriage by a
Justice of the Peace going unrecorded and they said it might be possible.
I
was directed to the Carrollton Public Library.
Their microfilms of the News-Democrat newspaper did not go back to 1919.
