The following is an excerpt from Elizabeth Gray Lyman's "The Gray Family History and Record", published in 1942 about the Robert Gray family that settled in Shelby County, Indiana.  If you have any questions or additions to the following, please contact Carolyn Hoffman.

            ROBERT GRAY, eldest child of  James and Rebecca (Shaffer) Gray  was born in Mifflin County, Pennsylvania, April 16, 1791.  Married Margaret Shaffer (Schaefer), who was born October 28, 1790.

(Margaret Shaffer was the daughter of Peter and Catherine Shaffer (Schaefer).  Peter Shaffer (Schaefer), born February 2, 1757.  Catherine Shaffer (Albert), born June 8, 1761.)

Robert Gray and Margaret Shaffer (Schaefer) were married in Pennsylvania.  Came to Preble County, Ohio about 1820, and a few years later came to Shelby County, Indiana.

Robert Gray died October 2, 1876.

Margaret Shaffer (Schaefer) Gray died August 21, 1877.  Buried in Ogden cemetery [Shelbyville, Shelby Co., Indiana].
